Sunday Snapshots

I wanted to clean the dust out from under our bed.

I moved our bed.
I broke our bed.

Rich  fixed my bed.
With a welder.

It was late.
Pioneer Day weekend.

Lots of fireworks.
Smelled like smoke.

Time passed.
Smelled more like smoke.

Rich left his cell phone in the garage by the welder.
He opens the door.

I gasp.
There is a wall of thick black smoke in the garage.

It is billowing, boiling, with a life of it's own, it creeps in through the door way.
I cannot see an inch into the garage.

Rich feels around the corner and blindly finds the buttons to raise the large car doors.
I grab the fire extinguisher from under our range.
Rich takes it and enters the smoky dark.

I run upstairs and drag the children from their beds.
The fire alarm, who apparently is the last to know, goes off.

I put the children on the front porch and tell them to stay outside.
I get the baby from his crib.

We join the kids.

I think, "I am Job, reincarnated, and now my house is burning down."

I am eerily still at peace.

Rich finds us and says the fire is out.

I can't believe it.

I thought the entire garage was aflame with that much smoke in there.

A spark from the welder did this to his golf clubs:

I guess karma really does catch up with you.
Time to take up a new sport, baby
At least the house itself wasn't damaged.

And, we discovered that smoke is a great way to exterminate spiders.
Those webs were actually transparent before the blaze.

I had no idea they were there.
Smoke does have it's uses.

The kids have absolutely no memory of last night.

They didn't believe us until we showed them the webs and clubs.

Happy Pioneer Day!

P.S. If you don't have a fire extinguisher- get one!  It literally saved our home!

Sunday Snapshot

Nathaniel and the other children go bonkers in the bouncy house at cousin Joseph's 2nd birthday party.

At my parent's house.

A Saturday in June, 2011.

I got that ugly brown bouncy house at a yard sale for $40 about 4 years ago.  It has been one of the best purchases I have ever made!  The kids LOVE it.  We use it at every birthday party; even in the winter we can set it up in the garage and go nuts.
